Former India captain Kapil Dev’s termed Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir’s heated verbal spat as “painful to watch” during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He advised the Board of Control for Cricket in India to train players to be decent citizens in order to reduce such events in the future.
Kohli and Gambhir sparred after the IPL 2023 match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 1 in Lucknow. During the game, Kohli and LSG’s Naveen-ul-Haq had a furious conversation, and the emotions spilled out after the game when Kohli and Gambhir nearly collided.
Kapil offered his thoughts on the surprising Gambhir-Kohli brawl in an interview with The Week magazine.
“They (BCCI) must also train players to be good citizens.” What occurred in the IPL between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli was devastating for me.”
“How can my two most important people, Virat Kohli, one of the best batters in the world, and Gautam Gambhir, who is now a member of Parliament, behave in such a way?” But athletes, from Pele to Don Bradman, lose their minds,” he remarked.
Gambhir and Kohli have not always been the greatest of friends. They were also involved in an on-field brawl at IPL 2023.
“IPL is fantastic, but it can also spoil you.” Kapil Dev’s
During the same conversation, Kapil discussed the BCCI’s million-dollar kid, the IPL.
While acknowledging that the T20 league has given many benefits to Indian cricket, he noted that the tournament has also spoiled players.
“God is gracious; it’s not as if I never got hurt.” However, they now play for 10 months out of the year. Give it the benefit of the doubt, but everyone is responsible for themselves. IPL is wonderful, but it can also be harmful. Because of a few injuries, you will participate in the IPL. Because of your ailments, you will not be able to play for India. You’d take a break. “I’m being completely honest about it,” Kapil explained.
“If you have resources and money today, but no three or five-year calendars.” “There’s something wrong with that cricket board,” the former player remarked.
Meanwhile, India is on a tour in the West Indies. They lost the second ODI and will try to win the series on Tuesday (August 1).
