Hockey India League 2024–25: Format
On Tuesday, November 5, the complete format and plan of the 2024-25 HIL was announced. In this, as stated above eight teams of men and four teams of women will take place. The hockey season will start on 28 December 2024 with a men’s competition. The first match is between Team Gonasika and Delhi SG Pipers in Rourkela. In addition to this, men’s season will begin from 28 December 2024 to 1 February 2025. However, the women’s league will start on 12 January and 26 January 2025. Ranchi’s Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Astro Turf and Rourkela’s Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium are the two places decided for the sports event.
Before the notice of the game plan auction of the players in October in Delhi was done. Among men, the most expensive player is Harmanpreet Singh. Team Soorma Hockey Club of Punjab bought him for Rs 78 Lakh. In context to this, among women, Udita is the most costly player. Team Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers of West Bengal acquired her for Rs 32 Lakh. Now, let’s know the format of the Hockey India League 2024-25 with several phases.
Hockey India League 2024–25 Women’s Format
As stated above the women’s league will begin on 12 January 2025. The finals will held on 26 January 2025 in Ranchi Stadium. The first match is between Odisha Warriors and Delhi SG Pipers in Ranchi. Further, the four teams of women will compete with each other twice. For this, they will play as per the pool stage plan to continue the event till 24 January. In addition, the top two will face each other in the finals on 26 January 2025.
Hockey India League 2024–25 Men’s Format
Under phase one all eight teams will face each other once. It will take place from 28 December 2024 to 18 January 2025. After that phase two will start on 19 January 2025. The following phase will consist of two pools- A and B. Here, Pool A includes Kalinga Lancers, Soorma Hockey Club, Delhi SG Pipers, and Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers. Whereas Pool B carries Tamil Nadu Dragons, Gonasika, UP Rudras, and Hyderabad Toofans.
In this, teams of each pool will play with the opposite one. In addition, this way we get the two teams from each pool that will qualify for the semi-finals- 31 January 2025. With this, in the final both the winning teams of the semi-finals will have a faceoff.
