In South Africa, the brand-new SA20 tournament begins on January 10. The competition is expected to revolutionize South African cricket and increase the sport’s fan base in the rainbow nation. It’s interesting to note that the IPL owners own all six of the competition’s teams.
In SA20, franchises are owned by the Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants, SunRisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals. MI Cape Town, Jo’burg Super Kings, Pretoria Capitals, Durban’s Super Giants, SunRisers Eastern Cape, and Paarl Royals are the six teams in South Africa’s league.
A few weeks ago, the player auction for the first SA20 tournament took place. The IPL 2023 auction is also a part of history. The following five players earn more in SA20 than they do in the IPL, despite the fact that the IPL’s salary cap is significantly larger than that of South Africa’s league.
Highest Paid Players In The South Africa T20 League 2023 :
5. Tristan Stubbs :
The most expensive pick at the SA20 Auction was the most expensive signing at the first SA20 Auction. In the player auction, the young South African wicketkeeper received a contract from SunRisers Eastern Cape worth R 9.2 million (or 4.41 crore).
At the IPL 2022 Auction last year, Stubbs was not sold. He was signed as a replacement by Mumbai Indians, five-time champions, for just 20 lakh rupees. In 2023, MI retained him for the same amount, resulting in a significant salary gap of 4.21 crore rupees between the two competitions.
4. Donavon Ferreira :
Another young South African wicketkeeper batter on the list is Donavon Ferreira. The South African player hasn’t played senior international cricket yet, but he already has contracts with two of the biggest T20 tournaments in the world.
At the auction, Jo’burg Super Kings spent a lot of money on Ferreira and signed him for R 5.5 million (or 2.64 crores). At the IPL 2023 auction, Rajasthan Royals purchased him for 50 lakh rupees a few weeks later.
3. Dwaine Pretorius :
Dwaine Pretorius is a pace-bowling all-rounder who made his IPL debut for Chennai Super Kings last year. At the huge auction, the four-time champions bought him for 50 lakh rupees. Durban’s Super Giants paid Pretorius R 4.1 million (or 1.97 crores) for his services at the SA20 auction. At the auction, he was the tenth most expensive signing.
2. Odean Smith :
Odean Smith, an aggressive all-rounder for the West Indies, was one of the best international picks at the SA20 player auction. This season, MI Cape Town paid him R 1.7 million (81.54 lahks). In 2022, Smith had a significant IPL contract, but his salary decreased in 2023. He was signed by the Gujarat Titans for the 2023 season at his base salary of 50 lakh rupees.
1. Lungi Ngidi :
One of the best fast bowlers in South African cricket is Lungi Ngidi. At the South African league auction, Paarl Royals paid R 3.4 million, or 1.63 crores, to sign him. However, Delhi Capitals were the only IPL team to sign the right-arm pacer, and they paid just 50 lakh rupees for him last season. In IPL 2023, DC retained him at the same cost.
