Nothing speaks as loudly as the riches offered by the Indian Premier League does when it comes to money. The best cricketers in the world, with the exception of Pakistan, have a chance to play in the most competitive tournament in the world and win some of the biggest paychecks in professional sports for a two-month competition with 10 teams.
Even before the 2023 season starts in April, the tournament this year has already broken a few records. After a fierce bidding war with Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings purchased England’s Sam Curran, an all-rounder, for an eye-watering bid of 185 million Indian rupees, or $2.26 million. This made Curran the most expensive player ever in the tournament’s history.
After winning the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, Curran is now a well-known white-ball player. During the player auction last month, fellow England star all-rounder Ben Stokes, young batsman Harry Brook, and Australian Cameroon Green were among the other players who won the jackpot.
