Jason Holder and Kyle Mayers, who withdrew from the Test series to play franchise cricket, have rejoined the T20I squad but will not be included in the team that plays the Australians in the 50-over format.
The T20I team will also include Brandon King and Sherfane Rutherford, who are permitted to play franchise cricket.
Leading selector Desmond Haynes said, as reported by Cricinfo, that he expects the ODI team to be very competitive in Australia after their series triumph over England.
Lead selector Desmond Haynes stated, “We are expecting our ODI team to be very competitive in Australia on the back of a series win against England.” “We have some new inclusions, who have impressed over a significant period, and a couple of returning players, who we think will have an impact.
“This is a vital component of our T20I series preparations for the next T20 World Cup, which we will be hosting. As the big event draws near, we hope to build on our impressive overall performances against India and England and continue to become better.”
Hetmyer is one of the most potent batsmen in white-ball cricket, but lately, luck hasn’t been on his side. The southpaw scored 32, 0, and 12 in three One-Day Internationals against England before struggling in the opening two Twenty20 Internationals.
Hetmyer was omitted for the next three matches in the series against England after only managing three runs in the first two games.
