Here’s What You Need To Know About The PGA Tour’s Hire : Gore: PGA Tour has hired Jason Gore for a similar role. The USGA previously employed Gore for four years.
The PGA Tour has announced that it has hired Gore as a VP and player advocate to further strengthen the relationship between the tour and professional golfers.
The hiring comes as the tour is faced with competitive interest from a Saudi-funded competitor that already has 26 players signing up and Tiger Woods holding a meeting in Delaware to strategize how best to compete.
Rory McIlroy, a four-time major champion and PGA Tour board member said that the work of Gordon Gore led to a “complete 180” in players’ relationship with event organizers for the U.S. Open. McIlroy says it now ranks among the top two majors for how players are treated and their feedback they can provide.
Jason Day who was released by the USGA, may have rediscovered his inner purpose and has yet to be implemented into a tour. It is a surprise that he was reactivated and it will likely be a great addition to the USGA.
Mike Whan, the CEO of the USGA, communicated in a statement to his staff that he believes deeply that the U.S. Golf Association is traveling in the right direction, but acknowledges that the pull of his “brotherhood” within the PGA Tour ranks was too strong and thus he know this is best decision for Jason and for golf as well.
In 2005, Gore achieved a lot of success without being on the PGA Tour. He won three times, jumped to the amateur tour, and then won one of the first PGA Tour events that was organized after they were all gone.
McIlroy stated that they don’t want former players to run this. The players are players and management are management, which is their job. Individuals with this skill set aren’t the people who have been chosen for the role of CEO of this company.
He said that Jay Monahan could have been the “missing link” to take player ideas and put them into action. Jay is a player advocate who wants do everything he can to make the players as happy as possible, John said. And this makes it an even better addition.
