Here’s everything you need to know about the European Cricket League
Here’s everything you need to know about ECL: The European Cricket League (ECL) is a professional Ten10 cricket league where cricket clubs from different countries in Europe compete. It was set up so cricket could grow and become more prevalent in Europe. In 2018, the league was introduced.
The T-10 format is used for the league, which comprises clubs from all over Europe that won their national tournaments. In 2019, the first tournament was held at La Manga Club in Spain, with eight clubs participating. The winner was VOC Rotterdam, which beat SG Findorff in the final by 101 runs. It was shown live on TV and streamed to more than 140 million homes in over 120 countries by more than 40 broadcasters.
There have been two ECLs. The first one came out in 2019. The first winner was VOC Rotterdam, and the most recent winner was Pak I Care Badalona. The second one was in 2022, and 30 teams took part.
A history of the ECL
Daniel Weston started the league in 2018 with support from eight official International Cricket Council member federations: Russia, Netherlands, France, Italy, Denmark, Romania, Spain, and Germany. Since the first tournament was held, the number of federations and teams participating in future tournaments has grown.
The 2020 event was supposed to be held at the La Manga Club in Spain again, but this time there were going to be 16 participants instead of 8. This is because the Belgian, Danish, English, Finnish, Irish, Norwegian, Romanian, Scottish, and Swedish National Champions were going to join the event. However, the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain and worldwide made it impossible to hold the event. The next one was supposed to occur at the La Manga Club in 2021, but the COVID-19 pandemic made that impossible again.
For ECL22, the competition grew a lot, and champions from 29 countries, plus the previous winners, VOC Rotterdam, were invited to take part. In addition, bookmakers Bet2Ball were named the Title Sponsor, and the cryptocurrency Kiba Inu was said to be sponsoring the jerseys of all 30 teams.
The board of the European Cricket League
Frank Leenders and Thomas Klooz, who are both on the ECL board, worked on marketing for the UEFA Champions League. In 1992, both Leenders and Klooz joined TEAM Marketing, which stands for Team Event and Media Marketing. During the early years of the UEFA Champions League, they were both important parts of the rebranding process. Leenders went on to become the Managing Director and a member of the Board of Directors. Klooz took over as CEO and also joined the Board of Directors.
Roger Feiner, the CEO of ECL, was the Director of Broadcasting at FIFA from 1999 to 2002. During that time, he was in charge of the global TV rights and TV broadcasts for events like the 1999 FIFA Confederations Cup in Mexico and the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Japan/Korea.
