Here You Go For the Gameweek 3 Tips of The Premier League
Here You Go For the Gameweek: Gabriel Jesus withstood the early losses of Manchester City to remain in fantasy gold status. Jesus managed four attacking returns from shots in the box and 1.44 expected goals when taking on Manchester City teams, who look like a fixture to target ahead of their poor start to their season.
With Jesus and Reece James, we’ve learnt that wing-back players are a valuable asset in this season’s game. Mo Salah is still an expensive captaincy investment.
Despite a lack of quality options at the centre-back position, Liverpool’s fixture schedule is about to dominate, providing Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) and Andy Robertson (£7m) with the platform to reward their owners significantly in the coming weeks. It’s only a matter of time before one or both provide some very high returns for their new owners.
Holly Shand’s opinion on Robertson and Alexander-Arnold is that he thinks the double up is getting a bit much right now. Shand will review the situation after Manchester United game.
Holly Shand: There’s no need to worry about Salah – he will come back. He has been playing well so far, scoring nine goals in ten games against Manchester United in the league.
A player owned by everyone, but always returns points when on the pitch. For example, if you put Salah in instead of Costa, you could use the £8m saved to improve your squad. There’s a downside, though, since high ownership increases the chance that he will have a big Gameweek with three double-points games. It depends on how risk-averse you are.
Should I buy Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland in my fantasy team? Holly Shand: Some players might be tempted to do that given their hefty pricetag relative to their fixtures and the defence of Man City, which has conceded none so far. But you can’t captain them both. So choose one and put your trust in them.
Understandably, with Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne both on the same team and their performances since the transfer window it could be difficult to decide who to captain. Additionally, Liverpool’s fixtures are much easier than Manchester City, but overall I’m still confident that Salah will outscore De Bruyne (or Hazard) over the next few Gameweeks.
Who are the value players in FPL? Ivan Toney is a forward who costs £7.1 million and is often on penalty duties. Toney has had great form this season, and his partnership up-front with Bryan Mbeumo also produces goals and assists for the Brentford striker.
Holly Shand: Darwin Nunez can be a good option for owners this season since he is being prepared to take over from Jesus. If you’re considering replacing Darwin and already have Jesus, then Toney is the next best option.
The question is now: should you use the underperforming (and now expensive) British midfielder, Gabriel Martinelli, or take a chance on the cheaper and more explosive South American winger, Bukayo Saka. Taking into consideration that Jesus and Tomiyasu are playing well in the same attacking bands, it would seem that Saka may need to be saved for later strategy.
With Martinelli, I tipped over Saka in this blog and so far it’s proved to be the correct decision. This really was a no-brainer for me, I felt that Martinelli is the better FPL asset all along.
In order to replace Darwin Nunez with a better option, ideally you can use the saved money from sales to improve your team for future Gameweeks. However, if you still need Harry Kane, or players such as Cornelis Bringsjoe, one of them would be ideal for your squad if you see an opportunity to buy them.
Holly Shand: Kane and Aleksandar Mitrovic are the two best players available on free transfer from FPL. Jesus is a viable option that could provide points for Gameweek 2, especially since he was already popular for Gameweek 1. Gameweek 2 provides a nice opportunity to replace Jesus with someone like Nunez if you don’t have funds elsewhere to go up to Kane or Haaland.
In order to be successful, some midfielders are not going to be able to produce their best in every game. Players need time to develop a solid run of form, and its important not to panic by benching them every week when a run is not up for grabs for the foreseeable future. Bailey owners should sell him now or bench him if you have the tiers of squad depth available. Despite these warnings, there are still some great options downgrading at this price point that could see better value elsewhere.
For someone looking to replace their cheap midfielder, this is the player to look for. Pascal Gross has the potential for goals and assists due to Brighton’s favourable fixtures over the next six Gameweeks, costing only 5.6 million. He also takes most of Brighton’s corners and has a high number of entries into the box which is encouraging for his chances of scoring FPL points in the future.
