The veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin received praise from keeper-batter Dinesh Karthik praises for his outstanding five-wicket haul on Day 1 of the first Test against the West Indies in Dominica on Wednesday. Karthik claimed that some of the batters were simply too unprepared for Ashwin’s abilities.
On Day 1 of the Test match, India bowled out the West Indies for 150 in 64.3 overs, with Ashwin taking 5/60 in 24.3 overs. Ravindra Jadeja, a left-arm spinner, also contributed with 3/26. However, the off-spinner was unquestionably the star of the day.
Karthik praised Ashwin and called his dismissal of Tagenarine Chanderpaul the “ball of the day.
He outthought and out-skilled a few batsmen. That would undoubtedly be Chanderpaul’s delivery. [Bowling to a left-hander] It’s a fantasy ball, one that creeps in and takes the off-bail. Chanderpaul’s ball was most likely the finest of the day. He has once again demonstrated why he is a world-class spinner. Congratulations, Ashwin.
Karthik, on the other hand, was scathing of West Indies hitters, claiming that many of them handed away their wickets with bad strokes.
The 38-year-old went on to say:
The rest of the hive capitulated. 31/1, which is a good start in a test match, became 75/5. We keep telling why the West Indies are struggling – they don’t have the technology or the skills to build a good partnership together. Players come out for soft throws – [Kraigg] Brathwaite is the captain trying to throw one and ducks for cover. [Jermaine] Blackwood raises half.
Only West Indies debutant batsman Alick Athanaze provided some opposition. Before becoming one of Ashwin’s five victims, he hit a gutsy 47.
“Ishan Kishan was lovely from behind the stumps” Dinesh Karthik praises
While Athanaze made his debut for the West Indies, India also had two Test debutants in Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan. The latter was outstanding behind the stumps, grabbing two catches and displaying flawless glovework overall.
India fielded beautifully, with some lovely catches. Behind the stumps, Ishan Kishan was magnificent. Joshua Da Silva was a fantastic grab. Raymon Reifer, his maiden Test catch off Shardul Thakur, was another excellent catch, down to the ground.
After cheaply bowling out the West Indies, India declared at 80/0, with Jaiswal batting on 40 and Rohit Sharma on 30.
Ishan Kishan is a talented wicketkeeper-batsman from India who made his international debut in March 2021. Known for his explosive batting and agility behind the stumps, Kishan has garnered praise from fellow cricketers like Dinesh Karthik. While I don’t have access to the latest details beyond my September 2021 knowledge cutoff, here are some key points about Ishan Kishan up until that time.
