Wasim Jaffer believes that if Sanju Samson’s performs well in the forthcoming ODI series against the West Indies, he could replace KL Rahul as India’s second-choice wicketkeeper-batter for the World Cup 2023.

Jaffer was asked whether Samson fits into India’s plans for the World Cup 2023 during a conversation on JioCinema, and he responded:
In my opinion. If KL Rahul is healthy, he will undoubtedly be the first option. Then, Sanju Samson might be the chosen one. Ishan Kishan might serve as the backup opener and wicketkeeper. Sanju might then lose out.
The previous Indian opening continued:
Sanju Samson needs to win this series of ODIs against the West Indies, so. Sanju Samson has had a minor consistency problem. But if he performs in that manner and assumes responsibility, he might serve as the backup wicketkeeper.
When asked if Samson should be India’s second wicketkeeper, Ishant Sharma voted in favor of Ishan Kishan. The Jharkhand wicketkeeper-batsman, he reasoned, has performed admirably at the top of the order and has even amassed a double century in ODI cricket.

When further questioned about if Samson doesn’t function well as a wicketkeeper at No. 4, Aakash Chopra responded:
“He is a perfect fit. I think you should play Ishan Kishan right away (in the middle order), and then you should continue to play him until Rahul is no longer available, just to be sure that Ishan Kishan is your No. 2 keeper.
Samson should be selected for India’s World Cup team, according to the cricketer-turned-commentator. If he contributes runs in the middle order against the West Indies. He clarified:
“He is perfectly integrated. I think you should play Ishan Kishan right away (in the middle order). And then you should continue to play him until Rahul is no longer available. Just to be sure that Ishan Kishan is your No. 2 keeper.”
Samson should be selected for India’s World Cup team, according to the cricketer-turned-commentator, if he contributes runs in the middle order against the West Indies. He clarified:
If you don’t think that way, Rahul must bat in the middle of the order, making Sanju Samson a perfect fit for my team. Although it is debated that he is not very consistent, the numbers have been very favorable lately. He will be chosen moving forward and will undoubtedly be able to play in the World Cup if he bats at No. 4 in this series and scores runs.
In 10 ODI innings, Samson has scored 330 runs at an average of 66.00 and a strike rate of 104.76.
