“Hasn’t scored enough goals to have his own celebration” – James Maddison launches vicious assault on Brentford star.
James Maddison launches vicious assault on Brentford star
Tottenham Hotspur star James Maddison fought with Brentford’s Neal Maupay after the latter copied the England international’s well-known darts celebration.
The Bees’ forward opened the scoring in their Premier League clash with Tottenham, which the north London club finally won 3-2 on Wednesday (January 31).
Muapay and teammate striker Ivan Toney celebrated Maddison-style near the touchline after scoring.
However, Ange Postecoglou’s men surged back in the second half, with Destiny Udogie (48′), Brennan Johnson (49′), and Richarlison (56′) all scoring inside eight minutes.
The last two would also express their support for their partner by performing a darts impersonation after scoring. Following the game, Maddison told TNT Sport (via Sky Sports).
The offensive midfielder made his Premier League debut after suffering an ankle injury in a 4-1 defeat to Chelsea on November 6.
He has contributed significantly to Tottenham Hotspur’s success this season, scoring three goals and assisting six times in 12 league games.
Spurs are currently fourth, just three points behind north London rivals Arsenal and eight behind leaders Liverpool.
Maddison and Co. will travel to Goodison Park to play Everton on Saturday (February 3).

Neither Neal Maupay nor James Maddison has held back after their spat over the darts celebration in Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-2 win over Brentford on Wednesday.
After the encounter, Maupay commented on Instagram and shared images from the fixture.
Overall, Maupay has scored 100 senior club goals, while the English midfielder has 72. Maddison was also relegated with Leicester City in the 2022/23 season before joining Spurs on an estimated £40 million last summer.
Maupay has had to score goals this season owing to Ivan Toney’s suspension and Bryan Mbeumo’s injuries. He’s scored four goals and assisted three in 18 Premier League outings.
The Bees are presently 15th in the rankings, only four points above the drop zone. They will have a stiff battle when Manchester City visit the Gtech Community Stadium on Monday (February 5).
