Harry Kane Is The New Leading Man Of The Premier League
Harry Kane Is The New Leading Man Of The Premier League: Harry Kane used to be slow in his starts of Premier League seasons. That is no longer the case. The England captain scored for the third straight game, taking Kane to third in the all-time Premier League scoring charts. Kane also scored late matches against Chelsea and Wolverhampton prior to this match where he helped Tottenham earn a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.
Kane has never scored any goals in August before 2018, a run of 15 matches across 3 different seasons. Kane also started poorly last season, after an unsuccessful summer move to Manchester City and failed January transfer attempt, but ended the year strong.
With a full season under his belt and momentum building, he has hit the ground running in the 2022-23 campaign. He was barrelling towards a second goal against Forest only to be saved by Dean Henderson with visible frustration.
On Sunday, West Ham beat Aston Villa 1-0 and Newcastle struck in the 90th minute to leave Wolverhampton with a 1-1 draw. Tottenham’s Harry Kane scored in either half to draw level with Andrew Cole on 187 Premier League goals, behind only Alan Shearer (260) and Wayne Rooney (208), and ensure his side’s unbeaten start to the season continues.
Kane’s perfect day was ruined when Henderson stopped his 21st penalty in consecutive games in the English Premier League.
To take command of the home ground, Spurs found the perfect way to quieten it down in just five minutes. After Kane’s touch brought Dejan Kulusevski away, he returned the ball to Kane who found the bottom corner from 20 yards with clinical precision.
After a VAR check, Henderson saves Tottenham’s spot kick, just like he did against West Ham. This was the first penalty Kane missed since February 2018, but as ever with Henderson it was him diving full length to his right to palm away the powerful shot.
By the end of the game, West Ham had almost doubled their lead, with nine minutes left to play. The ball ended up on the head of its best player, who headed it into the back of the net in a dangerous position.
When Pablo Fornals scored the only goal of the game, West Ham started top-flight play with a win. The deflection goal reduced pressure on their coach, David Moyes. Despite increasing tension for manager Steven Gerrard, fans showed no anger towards their team at full time.
With 16 minutes remaining, Fornals’ goal at Villa Park was disallowed because Keith Downing’s free kick went slightly out of play. Kurt Zouma brought the ball forward before finding Declan Rice who found Fornals who made a 25-yard shot which deflected off Konsa and looped over Emiliano Martinez.
Newcastle United salvaged a draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers with Allan Saint-Maximin’s stunning 90th minute equalizer.
Saint-Maximin’s twentieth-minute goal seemed to seal the match. However, in stoppage time, Willy Boly struck the crossbar with a shot after a brilliant cross from Elliot Anderson and then Ruben Neves mustered an impressive half-volley to level the score.
With new money signing Alexander Isak unable to join Newcastle and with injuries mounting due to Eddie Howe not getting his work permit and Bruno Guimaraes and Callum Wilson injured, Newcastle were dealt a blow in the first day at Molineux.
