Surprisingly, this match was Hardik’s second ODI as captain and unfortunately, India lost the match in a humiliating manner. Notably, Hardik’s first match as ODI captain took place in March 2023 when India clashed against Australia at the Wankhede. In that match, India secured a comfortable victory as the visitors were bowled out for only 189 and India was able to chase down the target with ten overs to spare.
How is Hardik Pandya’s record as Indian captain in T20I matches?
India regularly chooses Hardik as their captain for exclusive T20 bilateral matches. On India’s tour of Ireland in June 2022, Hardik captained India in a T20I match for the first time. Hardik suffered his first T20I defeat as captain since India’s 16-run defeat against Sri Lanka in January 2023. Overall, Hardik has led India in a total of 12 T20I matches. Although many fans do not consider Hardik the best contender for future captaincy, he has shown his potential so far with a 66.7% T20I win percentage.
