The nation’s primary cricket stadium and the only one that could be considered a major ground is Nairobi’s Gymkhana Club. The Gymkhana, which is home to one of Kenya’s oldest and most powerful clubs, has hosted colonial and other important matches since the early 1900s. However, it really started to grow in the 1990s when Kenya became a serious force in world cricket.
The actual ground is a combination of grass banking and wooden stands, with a cutting edge structure on one side and another media community, built for the 2000 competition, toward one side. The Gymkhana, like many other clubs of this kind in Kenya, hosts a variety of other sports and offers comfortable lodging. It is one of the highest first-class grounds, rising almost 5,500 feet above sea level.
Pitch report
Kenya’s primary cricket stadium and the only one that could be considered a major ground is the Gymkhana Club in Nairobi. The Gymkhana has hosted important colonial and other matches since the early 1900s, but it really started to grow in the 1990s as Kenya became a serious force in world cricket. After receiving funding from the ICC to host the ICC Champions Trophy in 2000, the ground experienced an investment drought as a result of internal problems in Kenya.
The Gymkhana Ground is made up of grass banks and wooden stands. On one side, there is a modern pavilion and on the other, there is a new media center that was built for the tournament in 2000. Like many clubs in Kenya that are similar, the Gymkhana offers comfortable lodging as well as a variety of other activities. Nearly 5,500 feet above sea level is one of the highest first-class grounds.
The National Stadium, which opened in 1995 and has a capacity of 7,000, hosted Kenya’s and Sri Lanka’s first one-day international matches on September 28 of that same year. It made its T20 cricket debut on September 1, 2007, when Kenya played Bangladesh. One of Kenya’s oldest and most prominent teams, the Gymkhana plays at the National Stadium.
