Great call from the skipper to go with the spinner” – Rahul Dravid praised Rohit Sharma’s approach in the second Super Over against Afghanistan.
Rahul Dravid praised Rohit Sharma’s approach in the second Super Over against Afghanistan
Team India head coach Rahul Dravid praised captain Rohit Sharma’s choice to select Ravi Bishnoi over a pacer for the second Super Over of the third T20I against Afghanistan in Bangalore on Wednesday.
In a nail-biting struggle that saw an international game decided by a double Super Over for the first time in history, India scored just 11 runs in the second one-over shootout.
Nonetheless, Rohit opted for leg-spinner Bishnoi to defend the relatively paltry score.
The 23-year-old did not disappoint, taking two wickets in three balls to end Afghanistan’s resistance and guide India to a 10-run triumph.
At the post-match news conference, Dravid explained why Bishnoi bowled the second Super Over.
In one of the most exciting T20Is, India and Afghanistan were tied at 212 apiece in regulation, prompting a Super Over.
However, both sides scored 16 in the one-over match, necessitating the use of another Super Over to determine who won.
Rohit earlier produced a brilliant fifth T20I century, a 69-ball 121, to help India recover from 22/4.
“I thought Bishnoi was brilliant” – Rahul Dravid
Rahul Dravid commended Ravi Bishnoi for keeping his cool and bowling the exact length in the second Super Over to enable India secure a historic victory.
Despite a poor performance in the original 20-over game (0/38 in four overs), the leggie shown incredible endurance to outfox the Afghan hitters in the extra session.
Bishnoi’s heroics helped India clinch a 3-0 series sweep over Afghanistan, maintaining their unblemished T20I record against their Asian foes.
Team India’s emphasis now changes to Test cricket, with a five-match series against England beginning in Hyderabad on January 25.
