Graham Potter, the manager of Chelsea who was recently fired, is said to have checked the outcome of the Blues’ match against Liverpool on his way to the Maldives. On April 2, a day after Aston Villa defeated the Pensioners 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League, Chelsea fired Potter as manager.
After Potter was appointed, the defeat left the West Londoners in 11th place in the standings and without a job. The Blues, according to the Sun, had to pay Potter a staggering £13 million as part of a severance package after firing him.
It has been alleged that the ex-head coach of Brighton & Hove Albion used £20,000 of his enormous pay package to take a luxurious vacation with his wife and three children in the Maldives. Potter reportedly checked out that Chelsea and Liverpool had played out a goalless draw in the Premier League after boarding a flight to the Maldives in Dubai.
Graham didn’t even look like opening the champagne; in fact, he seemed a little down. He seemed to get a lift during the flight, maybe because he knew Chelsea would still struggle without him.He also took a nap while playing games with his son. He vanished in a private bus, arriving last on the plane and departing first.
Since Potter was brought in from Brighton in September, he has managed the giants of the Premier League 31 times. During his tenure, the Champions League winners of 2021 scored an average of 1.42 points per game.
The Chelsea legend has been backed for an unexpected return, and his potential backroom staff has been revealed:
Football.london reports that Chelsea and Frank Lampard have agreed in principle to have him serve as the club’s interim manager until the end of the season. The search for a permanent coach will continue in the interim.
Lampard took over as manager of the club in July 2019, succeeding Maurizio Sarri. In charge until January 2021, he averaged 1.75 points per game in 84 games.During his most memorable spell, Lampard had a five-man private cabin group, comprising of Jody Morris, his right hand Eddie Newton, Henrique Hilario, Chris Jones and Joe Edwards.
This time, Joe Edwards, Chris Jones, and Ashley Cole will join Lampard, according to The Athletic. During his time at Everton, Lampard hired Cole as a coach for the first team. After a string of poor results, Lampard was fired as Everton manager in January 2023. He led them through 44 games, averaging just one point per game.
