Gqeberha, Paarl, Cape Town named hosts for Women’s T20 WC: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has selected Cape Town, Paarl, and Gqeberha (previously known as Port Elizabeth) to host the Women’s Twenty20 World Cup in February 2023.
Benoni and Potchefstroom were named as the locations that will play host to the Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup, which was another announcement made by Cricket South Africa.
According to the tournament director, Russell Adams, both the Eastern Cape and the Western Cape have superb facilities and infrastructure, making them ideal places for tourists interested in cricket. “We do not doubt that these venues will step up to the plate to make this a memorable and distinctively African celebration of cricket for the local and international fans who will be attending the event.”
Ten teams will compete in the Twenty20 World Cup this year. South Africa has earned the right to serve as the tournament’s host. At the same time, several other countries, including Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies, will compete.
A qualification round will be used to choose the two remaining teams in the competition. Australia is the defending champion and has hosted the tournament in the past. They won the tournament in March 2020 in front of a packed house at the MCG by defeating India. The competition was supposed to take place in the year 2022, but it was pushed back to the year 2023 as a result of the rearrangement that was caused by the Covid-19 epidemic.
