Global T20 Canada: Gyle, Russell, Harbhajan, Afridi among Marquee Names Drafted: Mumbai, 14 June Some of the star players selected on Wednesday for the forthcoming Global T20 Canada 2023 are Andre Russell, Chris Gyle, Harbhajan Singh, Shahid Afridi, and Shakib Al Hasan.
The League will be played in Brampton, Ontario, from July 20 to August 6 for the first time in four seasons. Over the span of 18 days, 25 matches will be played by six franchises.
Edmonton Royal and Winnipeg Hawks, two franchises that participated in the competition in 2019, are no longer absent, and they have been replaced by Mississauga Panthers and Surrey Jaguars, respectively.
Each squad consists of 16 players from ICC associate and full member countries. Six international athletes, including two headline names, four athletes from Associate Nations, and six Canadian cricketers make up these squads.
For the Montreal Tigers, Shakib, Russell, and Chris Lynn will play. This season, Harbhajan, a former New Zealand all-rounder, will play for the Brampton Wolves. Afridi will play for the Toronto Nationals along with Colin Munro, a dependable big hitter from New Zealand, while Gayle and Shoaib Malik will play for the Mississauga Panthers.
Alex Hales, a powerful right-handed opener for Surrey, and Iftikhar Ahamed, a top-order batsman for Pakistan, are the team’s marquee picks for this edition, while Mohammed Rizwan, a Pakistani wicket-keeper, and Rassie Van Der Dussen, a brazen South African batsman, are the top picks for Vancouver Knights.
The tournament will take place as the United States prepares to host Texas for the inaugural season of Major League Cricket (MLC). It indicates that two additional T20 competitions will be added to the already jam-packed cricket schedule in July.
