In today’s first One-Day International against England in Mirpur, Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has won the toss and decided to bat. Iqbal is one of three changes made by the hosts to the team that played the third One-Day International against India last year, making his international debut after almost seven months.
In addition to the captain, Yasir Ali and fast bowler Ebadot Hossain will be replaced in this match by batter Najmul Hossain Shanto and spinner Taijul Islam. Even though England is returning to Bangladesh after a six-year absence, the defending champions will still face a significant challenge from the Bangladeshi team throughout this three-match series.
England has made four changes to its playing XI for the ODI against South Africa in Kimberley exactly one month later. In place of Ben Duckett and Harry Brook, fast bowler Mark Wood, all-rounder Sam Curran, and pacer Reece Topley, batsmen Phil Salt, James Vince, and Will Jacks have been given opportunities.
In a sad turn of events, India cannot watch England’s tour of Bangladesh in 2023 on television. One would have really liked to see how the English team performed in a country where touring teams have lost in recent years. This isn’t the first time that no television channel has expressed interest in international cricket being played in Bangladesh.
