Gary Neville admits Luke Shaw ‘moment of madness’ resulted in red mist
Gary Neville admits Luke Shaw: Gary Neville addressed the red mist that all but demoralized Liverpool, saying Danny Ings’ fiery display against Arsenal was a “moment of madness.”
On Monday Night Football, Liverpool drew with Crystal Palace 1-1 at Anfield; referee decided to send off defender for headbutt on a Crystal Palace player. Neville describes the incident as insanity.
Luis Diaz was able to salvage a 1-1 draw for Liverpool against Crystal Palace in the Premier League, despite Luis Nunez being sent off for his first match and incident which occurred in the Mexico vs. Brazil match. A goal from Wilfried Zaha gave Crystal Palace an early lead, but when Luis Nunez pushed Joachim Anderson, Liverpool went on to score their only goal of the match.
The Southampton manager understands why Nunez may be feeling angry with the red card. In 2011, when he played soccer professionally, he was sent off after pushing one of the opponents to the ground while they were both fighting for the ball.
We don’t know why he reacted. We have no idea. We go off into a violent rage and act without thinking or control, like when Sanchez kicked the ball at a fan during Everton instead of passing. It is that red mist. It comes over you in moments of extreme emotion, as when Steve McManaman tackled Sanchez during the match with Liverpool on December 6th, 2015.
When a player is sent off as a result of poor competition and your team wins the game, it’s a rare feeling to know that you have mathematically eliminated your opponent from the tournament. Despite being one against nine, the players will help pick up the teammate that was put down by their teammates rather than talk about how they are singlehandedly putting their team in danger. In this case, he would have gone around the dressing room to apologise.
Not the start Liverpool wanted for Origi, and kind of the same for Klopp. Because he comes in with so much rust after a lengthy suspension, it could be five or six weeks before we see him back in the Liverpool starting XI.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said that Mohamed Salah being shown a red card was a result of the referee’s decision, not his own. Klopp believes too much public discussion about Salah’s actions could discourage him from playing with such intensity and passion.
James Milner, manager, Liverpool: Nunez will be disappointed in his own performance. We rally together and get back to our game plan. The team showed can-do spirit to pull it back together. The Reds had a difficult start but managed themselves with their fighting spirit and readiness for the upcoming season. In spite of a rough few days of preparation, nobody can deny the fighting spirit that everyone has shown in the face of adversity this week.
When a player like Luis is on, there’s always a chance for something amazing. Though he did miss the actual goal, we hope to see many more of these moments. It was an incredible goal and so hopefully, there will be many more.
Liverpool continues their reign as the leader of the English Premier League this week with a big match against Manchester United before Crystal Palace’s trip to face Aston Villa.
