Gabriel Agbonlahor, a former star at Aston Villa, has criticized Manchester United star Antony, claiming that he would trade him for Antonio Valencia. Antony, 23, has battled to intrigue since joining the Red Villains from Ajax for an incredible charge of £86 million the previous summer.
In his 15 appearances this season in the Premier League, he has only scored three goals. In total, Brazil international with 15 caps has played 31 games and scored seven goals and one assist in 2179 minutes. Agbonlahor discussed Antony’s appearances for Manchester United during the current 2022-23 season on talkSPORT. He said more:
“For starters, I look at Antony’s stats when I watch him. In 15 Premier League games, he has scored three goals and provided no assists. He has zero help in light of the manner in which he plays. “I’ve watched him all season, and I saw him last night against Brentford.
He gets the ball but knows he can’t beat the full-back on the outside, so he pretends to go outside, goes inside, and then gives it away,” I said. Agbonlahor went on to say that Valencia was superior to Antony: “You’re frustrated if you’re a striker. Andy Cole came out and said that if he were a striker in the team right now, he would be angry because you won’t get chances.
“Any day of the week, I would trade Antony for Antonio Valencia. He scored seven goals and had 13 assists in his first season with Manchester United. The season later, six objectives and 16 helps, then he went to right-back.”
Agbonlahor concluded by comparing Antony’s style of play to that of Valencia: “He was a winger who used to get the ball, a little step-over, speed, and power and clasp it in. The strikers were aware of when it was entering. Antony realizes it and performs his pranks.
“He took himself on in one instance yesterday; he didn’t take the defender on, he took himself on! He gets the ball, shimmy a little, and the defender just stands there saying, “Go on, take me on.” Antony is next set to be in real life for Manchester Joined in their Chief Association challenge against Everton at Old Trafford on Saturday (April 8).
