French Open 2022 Winners: Complete list of men’s, women’s, boys’ and girls’ singles and doubles champions
French Open 2022 Winners: The French Open was full of exciting matches and compelling storylines, but eventually they came to a close on Sunday. At the start, it seemed that Carlos Alcaraz’s high energy and Stefanos Tsitspas’ tactics would win them the game. However, they failed to meet expectations and lost early in the tournament.
Novak Djokovic seemed to be back in form, but he fell to the quarters of Roland Garros after Rafael Nadal defeated him. For Rafael Nadal himself, he appeared to be healthy and dominant at the French Open.
The Women’s Draw was mark by upsets. The top players bowed out early, with just three top-10 players making it to Round 3.
Coco Gauff is one of the biggest stars in tennis. From her debut years ago, she has reached the finals in singles and doubles continually.
Amidst all the chaos of the latest women’s tour, Iga Swiatek has been consistent. World Number 1, she did not disappoint, as she lifted the trophy for the second time in her career.
Eight-time winner Rafael Nadal was joined by a number of people who won the tournament. Here are the winners in 2022:
Men’s singles
Rafael Nadal had 13 French Open titles and has a 105-3 record, but his foot injury combined with a tough draw this time around made him not the frontrunner at the French Open.
With his dominance in Roland Garros, it is foolish to count out Nadal. After a straight set victory in the first three rounds, he passed through a tough competitor by finally winning against Felix Auger-Aliassime in five sets. He also won over arch-rival Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals and surpassed Alexander Zverev’s injury in the semifinals to go on to face surprise opponent Dominic Thiem yet again.
Nadal, the first man to win 14 titles in Paris and 22 Grand Slams overall, won against Casper Ruud with a 6-1, 7-6(2) win. He has the chance to get one more Slam in 2017.
Women’s singles
Iga Swiatek is one of the most dominant players in women’s singles, proving that with a strong lead-up performance, you lead to a successful tournament. She has the highest winning streak heading into this year’s French Open, nailing five titles on the trot before heading to Paris.
With an unprecedented win streak, Swiatek has won her second grand slam in a row. In the tournament, she celebrated with Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-3 to conclude the competition.
Men’s doubles
We saw Men’s Doubles win their first title with Jean-Julien Rojer and Marcelo Arevalo. With nerves of steel to save three championship points, the duo defeated Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek 6-7(4), 7-6(5), 6-3 to become champions.
Rojer has three major kitchen appliances to his name. He just needs to win the Australian Open to complete a Grand Slam. Arevalo is the first player from Central America to win a Major Kitchen Appliance.
Women’s doubles
Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic won their first major title in 2016 at the French Open. They were a solid doubles team but later split up and only occasionally played together after that.
In 2019, they won the French Open again. This is Mladenovic’s sixth Grand Slam doubles title and Garcia’s second. They defeated Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula in the final – 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
Mixed doubles
Wesley Koolhof and Ena Shibahara defeated Joran Vliegen and Ulrikke Eikeri 7-6(5), 6-2 in the mixed doubles final at Wimbledon. All four players were vying to win their maiden Grand Slam title across all disciplines, but the Dutch-Japanese pair ultimately prevailed.
After Koolhof and Shibahara lost the opening set, they were trailing 5-2 in the tiebreaker. But they came back to win five points in a row, and faced no difficulties in the second set, beating Kavcic and Jugte 6-2 to take the title.
Boys’ singles
Gabriel Debru lost in the first round of the Australian Open, but he was very successful in France, winning the boys’ singles title there.
Debru successfully defended his title against Gilles-Arnaud Bailly 7-6(5), 6-3. He defeated Prizmic in the semifinals to get to the final.
Girls’ singles
The Czech Republic is a powerhouse in tennis with Petra Kvitova and Barbora Krejcikova among others, but it has now found another promising talent in the form of Lucie Havlickova. After winning the French Open girls’ title by defeating Solana Sierra 6-3, 6-3 in the final, she is on her way to becoming a powerful force in tennis.
Havlickova won the strongest three set matches to get through the final, demonstrating her full capabilities. Rushing ahead to win in the singles category and doubles, she wasn’t enough satisfied.
Boys’ doubles
The boys’ doubles champions of the French Open is Edas Butvilas and Mili Poljicak. They beat the Peruvian pair, Gonzalo Bueno and Ignacio Buse, in a 6-4, 6-0 victory. This is the second junior Grand Slam doubles title for Butvilas; he won at Wimbledon last year as well.
Girls’ doubles
Czech tennis player Lucie Havlickova defeated compatriot Sara Bejlek in the final of the girls singles, but then partnered with her to win the girls doubles event. They won in 6-3 sets over Nikola Bartunkova and Celine Naef.
