Freddie Freeman agent drama: Rep responds as the possible rift is exposed
Freddie Freeman agent drama: Rep responds as the possible rift is exposed. The drama surrounding the matter apparently didn’t end when Freddie Freeman was emotional upon his return to Atlanta over the weekend.
Freeman apparently has severed his relationship with super-agent Casey Close and is in conflict with his agency, Excel Sports. Freeman stated in a statement on Tuesday that their relationship is “fluid.” It is “on pause,” according to Sports Illustrated.
Doug Gottlieb, the host of Fox Sports Radio, tweeted on Wednesday that Freeman moved on from Close because Freeman was never made aware of the Braves’ final offer before signing with the Dodgers. That is a major no-no.
‘You didn’t notify me about this offer, Casey Close?’ He called Casey Close after learning over the weekend how close Atlanta had come with their final offer. During an episode of ‘The Doug Gottlieb Show,’ Gottlieb declared, ‘You’re fired.’

According to Gottlieb, who cited two ‘very solid sources in the business,’ Close thought Freeman would have ‘greater prospects’ with the Dodgers, including more wins and more money earned off the field. Uncertainty surrounded the Braves’ willingness to ‘play ball’ with Freeman.
Close angrily refuted Gottlieb’s accusation in a statement to Sports Illustrated on Wednesday night. ‘I would swear under oath that the reckless tweets made by Doug Gottlieb had absolutely no basis in fact. We are now assessing all of our legal alternatives in this situation,‘ Close added.
Matt Olson, a first baseman with the A’s, was acquired by the Braves in a trade on March 14 and later signed an eight-year, $168 million contract. Freeman signed with the Dodgers four days after the deal.
