FOUR TIGERS PLACED ON LOMBARDI AWARD WATCH LIST: Defensive tackle Bryan Bresee, offensive tackle Jordan McFadden, defensive end Myles Murphy, and linebacker Trenton Simpson were all named today by the Rotary Club of Houston as being among 77 athletes on the watch list for the Rotary Lombardi Award in 2022, which is given annually to the best lineman or linebacker in the country. The 77 athletes that will compete for this year’s prized honour have been announced by the Rotary Lombardi Award® and the Rotary Club of Houston. The college football offensive or defensive lineman who most embodies the integrity and discipline of NFL Hall of Fame Head Coach Vince Lombardi, in addition to excellent performance and ability, receives the Rotary Lombardi Award® each year.
The talent on this year’s watch list hails from a wide range of colleges and conferences, which ought to make for an intriguing voting process. In order to be eligible for the Rotary Lombardi Award®, players must be a part of an NCAA FBS college football team and satisfy the requirements listed below:
- Set up no more than ten (10) yards to the left or right of the ball at the moment of the snap as a down lineman, end to end, either on offense or defense.
- Defensively, act like a linebacker and position yourself no more than five yards from the line of scrimmage.
- Must not stand up on the line of scrimmage as a Blocker or a Receiver or be identified in the programme as an Offensive Back or Receiver upon leaving the offensive backfield.
- Been qualified to take part in the current season.
- This timeline will be followed during the voting process.
- November 1–8, 2022: Semifinalists will be chosen by voting.
- Announcement of the semifinalists on November 10, 2022
- November 11–21, 2022: Election to Select the Final Four
- Announcement of the four finalists on November 23, 2022
- Final voting period, November 23–December 5, 2022, will decide the winner.
- Winner of the Rotary Lombardi Award® will be revealed on December 7, 2022.
On October 15th, a midseason watch list that takes into account any changes to the current list will be published.
A subcommittee of the Rotary Lombardi Award® committee created the 2022 watchlist, which includes SID submissions. Players were chosen based on their prior success and anticipated contributions to the 2022 college football season. Players must have started at least one game at an NCAA Division 1 college or institution in order to be included on the watchlist.
There will be 77 players on the watch list, representing all 10 Division-I FBS leagues. The SEC and Big Ten conferences, which have 11 players apiece, are expected to have successful seasons with outstanding performance. From just the teams competing in the 2021 College Football Playoff, Alabama, Cincinnati, Georgia, and Michigan, seven players have earned seats on this watch list.
