Team directives
The usage of team instructions is a fundamental aspect of Formula One racing. In some circumstances, teams may communicate precise directives to their drivers in the hopes of assisting them in accomplishing predetermined tactical objectives. If a Formula One team wants to move up the grid, for instance, they could provide instructions to one of its drivers to move over and allow their colleague pass. This is a potentially contentious practise since it has the potential to change the result of a race and isn’t guaranteed to be well accepted by spectators or the press.
In the penultimate lap of the 2002 Austrian Grand Prix, the Ferrari Formula One team urged Rubens Barrichello to enable Michael Schumacher to overtake him. This allowed Schumacher to win the race and claim the title of world champion. As a result of the fury that this provoked among spectators and members of the media, new regulations were enacted that prohibited certain sorts of team commands.
Supporting drivers
The job of the supporting driver is another crucial component of the dynamics of a Formula 1 team. In many situations, one of the drivers will be selected to be the “lead” driver for the team, and the other driver will be required to assist them by either helping to impede the progress of other competitors or giving up their own position in order to facilitate the advancement of the lead driver.
It is possible for drivers in Formula 1 to collaborate on the track in order to assist one another in advancing or to obstruct the progress of other rivals. The drivers need to be able to communicate well with one another and work together effectively, in addition to having a strong sense of sportsmanship.
In a recent example, during the last race of the season, the 2021 Formula One Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi, Red Bull’s Sergio Perez pushed diligently over numerous circuits to attempt to keep Lewis Hamilton behind him while Max Verstappen stormed from third to cover the distance.
Lewis Hamilton ultimately overcame Sergio Perez but with a much decreased delta to Max Verstappen, who soon overtook his teammate, dubbing him a “legend.” This took place after a sequence of nail-biting overtaking antics that had the audience on the edge of their seats.
Aspirations of drivers
The drivers in Formula One are people in their own right, each with their own set of objectives and aspirations, and they have to find a way to balance them with the requirements of their team. Because of this, it may be particularly difficult for drivers who are vying for points and wins to cooperate with one another while still competing against one another. These drivers need to find a method to work together while also competing against one another.
This might result in maximum constructors points in the form of a 1-2 finish or it could result in millions of dollars in repair costs for both Formula 1 vehicles after an accident with no points to show for it. Red Bull teammates Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo became infamous for crashing out of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in 2018. The incident occurred as a result of Ricciardo’s botched effort to execute an overcut on Verstappen as advised by the Red Bull team.
Formula 1 pit crew
Last but not least, the performance of the pit crew is very important to the overall strategy of the team, and it may have a considerable bearing on the final result of the race. Pit crew members in Formula One are required to collaborate closely with the drivers in order to successfully conduct planned pit stops, and they must also have the ability to react to changing conditions on the course.
