Meanwhile, Australia’s Travis Head, Pakistan’s Usman Khawaja, and England’s Joe Root have been nominated for the ICC’s Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year 2023 award.
In 2023, Ashwin took 41 wickets in seven Tests. After collecting 25 wickets in four Border-Gavaskar Trophy Tests, which India won 2-1, the veteran off-spinner was awarded Player of the Series.
He also scored 150 runs in eight innings, including a fifty at Queen’s Park Oval against the West Indies. However, Ashwin only grabbed one wicket in the first Test against South Africa. He struggled at the plate as well, scoring eight runs and striking out in two innings.
Ashwin will make his next appearance in a five-match Test series against England at home. The first Test will begin on January 25 at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.
He only needs ten more Test wickets to achieve 500. Only former India captain Anil Kumble has more Test wickets for his country (619).

Meanwhile, Nitini has appeared in 101 Tests, 173 One-Day Internationals, and 10 Twenty20 Internationals for South Africa, taking 662 international wickets across formats, including 62 against India.
