Former Indian football captain says Bhaichug should contest for AIFF elections
Former Indian football captain says Bhaichug: Upcoming elections of the All India Football Federation have grabbed the attention of many international players and critics are suggesting their potential candidates. The former Indian players and some of the ex-international players believe that the legendary ex-Indian football player Bhaichung Bhutia is the best option. They suggest that Bhaichung Bhutia should contest for the post of president in AIFF.
Supreme Court approved timeliness for election
On Wednesday, In a hearing, the supreme court approved the timeline that was prepared by a committee of administrators(COA). COA currently handles all the sports running in the country so they will hold the election for the president post. The elections are scheduled to be held on August 28 and the polling process will start on August 13.
According to the court, the electoral college for the executive committee of AIFF will include 36 state association representatives. It will also include representatives of eminent football players which includes 24 males and 12 females.
The representative player should have at least played one international match representing India or they should have retired from International tournaments 2 years prior to the date of notification. Bruno Coutinho, former Indian captain says it would be good for the football fraternity of India if Bhutia participates in elections.
He said” a player with the status of Bhaichung gets nominated for the president post of AIFF. It will be a good thing for country footballers.” In a conversation with PTI in Goa.
” However, it is up to him if he wants to fight for the elections but it is my opinion that a former player like him will become president of AIFF. it’s going to be good for the country and the players.”
Bhaichung, one of the greatest Indian footballers, retired in 2011. He played more than 100 matches representing India.
