Former India allrounder Sridharan Sriram appointed as Bangladesh coach for Asia Cup, T20 World Cup: report
Former India allrounder Sridharan Sriram: He’s from Chennai. Sriram has been with the Australian team for six years, mostly as a spin instructor but also playing a significant part in the side’s batting, fielding, and strategy during several seasons.
Long-time The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has reportedly chosen Sridharan Sriram, the former assistant coach of the Australian men’s team who recently left the Kangaroos to concentrate on his coaching career in India, to serve as the team’s head coach for the upcoming Asia Cup in the UAE and the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia in October.
Sriram, who is based in Chennai, spent six years working with the Australian team as primarily a spin coach but also having a significant impact on the team’s batting, fielding, and strategy throughout the course of several campaigns.
Under the condition of anonymity, a BCB director confirmed to The Daily Star that the organization had picked Sriram up to the World Cup.
“The new coach will be seen beginning with the Asia Cup as we are moving forward with a new approach. And because the T20 World Cup is our primary goal, if a new coach is not hired from the Asia Cup, he won’t have time to adjust. There may not be much time left for the Asia Cup, according to some. As I already stated, the T20 World Cup is our primary concern “The BCB representative was mentioned in the article.
The BCB president, Nazmul Hassan Papon, reportedly hinted at making “drastic changes” to boost Bangladesh’s performance in the two major competitions on Thursday, according to the newspaper. According to the reported scenario, South African-born Russell Domingo, the new coach who has already arrived in Dhaka, would now give red-ball cricket his full attention.
Domingo will continue to lead the Test squad for the time being because we have a Test match against India in November, according to the BCB director.
Between 2000 and 2004, Sriram participated in eight ODIs for the Indian national team, with his final game against Bangladesh at Dhaka in 2004. The IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore has Sriram on its coaching staff as well.
