Former Indian batter Mohammad Kaif believes Sanju Samson is prepared for the 2023 World Cup and, given the opportunity, could contribute at No. 4 or No. 5.
Due to several injury concerns, Team India is unsure of their middle order for the ICC competition. Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant have all been sidelined for a time, and Rishabh Pant will not be participating in the World Cup.
Suryakumar Yadav has received several opportunities from the Indian think tank in the absence of usual names, but the T20I star hasn’t taken advantage of them.
Samson is capable of filling one of the middle-order positions in the ODI World Cup, according to Kaif.
Samson has really impressed me. At the publication of Amrit Mathur’s book “Pitchside” on Wednesday, August 2, the former cricketer was cited by PTI as stating, He played an impacting inning, whether, at four or five, he has done it in the past.
Ishan Kishan or Axar Patel being sent in the middle order was another option Kaif disapproved with.
“It’s not a good idea to send Axar Patel or ishan kishan in the middle order. Samson is the person you need to play left-arm spin and leg spin. He is prepared for the World Cup, the 42-year-old said. His innings in the third ODI came under pressure.”
While Samson entered the field at No. 4 in the most recent game and scored 51 off 4. Axar batted at No. 4 in the second ODI against West Indies and was cheaply removed.
According to Mohammad Kaif: Ashwin supports Axar at No.4
All-rounder Axar should not bat at No. 4 in ODI cricket, according to Kaif, but off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin disagrees.
He recently defended the Indian management’s choice to elevate Axar in the batting order during the West Indies One-Day Internationals in a video posted on his YouTube account.
Some of them questioned Axar Patel’s decision to bat at No. 4. Will he ever play elsewhere? When healthy, Shreyas Iyer will take the No. 4 position. Given that
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will begin the batting, we need a left-hander. He suggested that if we played on wickets that were somewhat spinning and if Axar batted at No. 4, we could stretch our batting and use an additional bowler like Shardul Thakur.
“The management of the squad is unknown to us. As a result, we are unable to call out their way of thinking as flawed, Ashwin continued.”
India, which defeated West Indies 2-1 in the one-day series, will play them in five T20Is from August 3 to August 13.
