If they believe it will be useful, teams are allowed to replace one member of their playing XI during a game. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will also introduce the “Impact Player” rule in the upcoming Indian Premier League, taking a page from the Big Bash League’s innovative strategy.
In a statement, the BCCI said, “The BCCI would like to introduce the concept of “Impact Player,” in which participating teams could replace one member of their playing XI during a T20 match depending on the context of the game.”
If they believe it will be useful, teams are allowed to replace one member of their playing XI during a game. The rule was first implemented in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, India’s domestic T20 tournament, by the Indian cricket board.
The first player to make an impact for Delhi was 22-year-old Hrithik Shokeen, who helped his team win the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy by 71 runs. An “X-Factor Player” in the Australian Big Bash League can replace any player who hasn’t batted or bowled more than one over after the 10th over of the first innings.
They must be named as the 12th or 13th player on the team sheet .Even if the player they’ve replaced has bowled, a replacement player can only bowl four overs.
The Impact Player is optional, and it is up to the teams to decide whether or not to use one.
Before the fourteenth over of either innings is completed, an Impact Player may be used. The introduction of the Impact Player will require notification from the captain, head coach, and team manager as well as the fourth umpire.
If the team uses an Impact Player to replace an injured player, that player cannot continue playing. In any case, an Impact Player can only be introduced after an over has been completed. However, in the event that an Impact Player is utilized by a team and sustains an injury, the existing rule will remain in effect.
The Impact player can be added to the batting team at the loss of a wicket or during the innings break. In this regard, the team must notify the fourth umpire.
