On this day in 2011, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) created history by signing South African sensation AB de Villiers during the IPL auction.
After three seasons with the Delhi Daredevils (now the Delhi Capitals), the team chose not to maintain the flashy batter.
De Villiers was acquired by RCB for ₹5 crore and played 11 seasons for the organization. Completing several accomplishments to secure his place among the pillars of IPL history.
Despite retiring from the IPL after IPL 2021. De Villiers is the sixth best run scorer in IPL history, with 5,162 runs in 184 games.
