Five Signings from Cape Town – Mumbai Indians: Cape Town based MI announced five signings for their CSA 20 T20 League team. Their initial signings were Kagiso Rabada, Liam Livingstone, Rashid Khan, Sam Curran and Dewald Brevis.
MI Cape Town announced its first five player signings Thursday for the upcoming CSA T20 League in South Africa.
The Mumbai Indians has signed South African speedster Kagiso Rabada, Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan and the English duo of Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran for its inaugural season, which is set to be played from January-February in 2023. MI also announced the signing of uncapped Dewald Brevis, who was also picked up by the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2022 auction earlier this year.
Six-time world champion and existing IPL franchise owner Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has added a new team to the Indian Premier League. These franchises will fight for a T20 league of their own, featuring recently retired all-stars like Sachin Tendulkar.
With the Chennai Super Kings acquiring the Johannesburg franchise, five teams in South Africa are now owned by Indian owners: Durban, Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth), Paarl and Pretoria were owned by Lucknow SuperGiants and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Delhi Capitals own Rajasthan Royals.
Faf du Plessis has been announced as the marquee player in the Johannesburg franchise of Indian Super League (ISL) team Chennai Super Kings, according to a report by PTI.
Du Plessis led Royal Challengers Bangalore in this IPL season and he was an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings from 2011 to 2021. The team is also believed to have roped in England all-rounder Mooen Ali as one of the team’s marquee players.
Ali Ahmed is listed in the marquee players list for the UAE League and will be playing there next year, but it’s believed he’d give precedence to playing in South Africa due to their clash due to occurring before the Emirates leg.
