Finn Allen hits Shaheen Afridi for 24 runs in one over during New Zealand’s first T20I against Pakistan
On Friday, January 12, New Zealand opener Finn Allen hammered Pakistan skipper Shaheen Afridi for 24 runs in one over at Auckland’s Eden Park in the inaugural T20I.
Allen’s mayhem occurred in the third over. The right-handed hitter started the over with a six before hitting a hat-trick of fours, twice to mid-off and once to short-fine.
The 24-year-old blasted another six over long-on off the penultimate ball of the over to extract 24 runs from Afridi, who delivered his most costly over in T20Is.
It was also the pacer’s debut as Pakistan’s full-time T20I skipper. Allen, on the other hand, was caught at square leg by Aamer Jamal off rookie Abbas Afridi.
For the uninitiated, Bilawal Bhatti owns the unenviable record for Pakistan’s most costly over in the T20I format, which occurred against Australia at the 2014 World Cup.
Mohammad Sami also conceded 28 runs against Australia in the 2010 T20 World Cup.

The Kiwis had a disastrous start, losing opener Devon Conway for a diamond duck as Afridi made the initial breakthrough.
Finn Allen then scored 35 runs off 15 balls, including three sixes and as many boundaries.
Kane Williamson of New Zealand also scored 57 runs off 42 deliveries before being removed by Abbas Afridi.
Meanwhile, Daryl Mitchell hammered 61 runs off 27 balls, including four sixes and as many boundaries, before being removed by Shaheen Afridi. Abbas Afridi also returned Glenn Phillips for 19 from 11 deliveries.
At the time of writing, the hosts were 185/6 after 16.3 overs, with Mark Chapman and Adam Milne batting.
The Men in Green are looking for their first T20I series victory in New Zealand since the 2017/18 series, when they won 2-1. The previous T20I series between the two sides concluded in a 2-2 tie.
