Final BWF World Tour Event: P.V. Sindhu, a double Olympic medalist, has been named one of the eight women’s singles players by the governing body of world badminton. Sindhu and Prannoy will compete in the season finale.
The complete list of shuttlers competing in the season-ending BWF World Tour Finals, which will take place in Bangkok from December 7 to 11, was made public by the Badminton World Federation on Wednesday.
P.V. Sindhu, a double Olympic medalist, has been included among the eight women’s singles players by the world badminton governing body.
On November 13, Sindhu withdrew from the Finals. The winner of the World Tour Finals in 2019 claimed that her stress fracture from the Commonwealth Games 2022 has not yet healed.
H.S. Prannoy is the other Indian shuttler who has previously qualified for the marquee tournament, along with Sindhu.
The other men’s singles players competing for the first time in the Finals are China’s Lu Guang Zu and Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew.
Following the conclusion of the Australian Open, which was the final qualifying tournament, the BWF published the players’ docket.
The BWF World Championships winners—Viktor Axelsen (men’s singles), Akane Yamaguchi (women’s singles), Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik (men’s doubles), Chen Qingchen-Jia Yifan (women’s doubles), and Zheng Siwei-Huang Yaqiong (mixed doubles)—have been granted direct entry into the season finale in accordance with the rules of the tournament is open only to the eight best players in the World Tour Rankings, with a maximum of two players from each country participating in each category.
