FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022: India clubbed with USA, Brazil, and Morocco as groups announced
Hosts in Group A of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, India is in with football powerhouse Brazil, Morocco, and the USA. The tournament will take place in three different places in the country. The 2022 edition of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will be the second time when India will be hosting a FIFA tournament event. In 2017, they hosted the U-17 Men’s World Cup. The World Cup will start on October 11 and end on October 30 with the final. The matches for the event that happens every four years will be held in Bhubaneshwar, Goa, and Navi Mumbai.
India – The Hosts
India, which is hosting the event and will be taking part for the first time in the top event for under-17 girls, which began in 2008. Now, they will try to finish in the top two of their group to move on to the next round. Each of the 6 times when this event has been held, no host country has ever made it to the semifinals. Instead, they have all lost in the group stage. India will play the USA in the first game of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup on October 11 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. Then, on October 14, they will play Morocco, and on October 17, they will play Brazil at the same stadium.
About the Draw Event
This Friday was the day when the tournament’s draw took place. Heather O’Reilly, a former US women’s national team player and FIFA women’s World Cup winner, and Ricki Herbert, a former New Zealand national team coach, joined host Mollie Kmita to present the official draw. Also, there were Jaime Yarza, FIFA’s director of tournaments, and Sarai Bareman, FIFA’s chief women’s football officer. Spain, which is the defending champion and beat Mexico in 2018 final, is in Group C with Colombia, China, and Mexico.
Absence of Teams in FIFA 2022
North Korea has won this event twice, in 2008 and 2016. Their neighbors, South Korea, who won in 2010, are also not there. The 2022 event was supposed to take place in India in 2020, but because of the Covid-19 pandemic, it had to be moved.
