FIFA threatened to suspend the AIFF over the alleged financial election irregularities. The world football governing body has written to the AIFF, giving them a deadline to sort out the pending issues about the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The AIFF has been asked to explain the current financial election situation of the federation and how it plans to improve its financial management. If FIFA is dissatisfied with the response, it has threatened to suspend the AIFF. According to sources, the letter from FIFA was sent to the AIFF and has been given a deadline of approximately five days to respond. This is not the first time FIFA has written to the AIFF about its financial management. In March, FIFA released a statement expressing its concerns over the state of affairs for football players.
The statement said, “FIFA is concerned about the current situation of the AIFF, its election management and governance. Although we have been monitoring the situation closely and have written several letters to the AIFF to seek clarification on several issues.”
FIFA’s decision to suspend the AIFF would be a huge blow to football players. It would mean that AIFF could not host any FIFA tournaments and would be barred from participating in competitions. This would also be a huge setback for the growth of the sport.
What’s The Whole Story Of FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Threatens?
The sources said on Wednesday that the Supreme Court ordered that those elections take place as soon as possible according to the timetable suggested by the Committee of Administrators (CoA).
Therefore, the U-17 Women’s World Cup will take place in October, but due to the “influence” of a third party, FIFA has threatened to suspend the AIFF and revoke its hosting rights. The threat comes just days after the Supreme Court ordered elections for the national federation.
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court ordered the executive committee of the Indian Football Federation to hold elections as soon as possible as per the timetable suggested by the Committee of Administrators (CoA), which is currently in charge of running the national federation.
Although the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will start in India on October 11, the high court approved the deadline for the CoA. The voting process began on August 13, and the elections were due on August 28.
FIFA wrote to the interim general secretary of the AIFF: “We request the AIFF to provide us, without further delay, with the official transcript of the Supreme Court’s decision of August 3, 2022, no later than 5:00 p.m. IST from August 9, 2022”.
Furthermore, in this regard, we would like to remind all member associations of FIFA and the AFC of the statutory obligations of the AIFF, including the independent management of their affairs and the guarantee that any third party does not influence them.
About The World Football Governing Body:
FIFA, the world football governing body, was founded in 1904 and had its headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland. As we know, FIFA is responsible for the organization of football’s major international tournaments, notably the World Cup, which commenced in 1930. However, FIFA comprises 209 member associations, each responsible for the organization and promotion of football in their respective countries.
FIFA’s mission is to “develop the game, touch the world, inspire generations”. One of FIFA’s primary objectives is to promote the development of women’s football. FIFA also organizes competitions for national teams at junior and youth levels, such as the FIFA U-20 World Cup and FIFA U-17 World Cup. Generally, FIFA governs most levels of football, including the men’s, women’s, Paralympic, and futsal games.
FIFA has come under scrutiny for various reasons: its treatment of host nations during World Cup bidding, corruption allegations surrounding its president Sepp Blatter and other high-ranking officials, controversies surrounding officiating decisions made during competitions, and a general perception of authoritarianism and lack of transparency. Nonetheless, FIFA has been praised for its worldwide reach and influence in the sport of football and its efforts to improve player safety by introducing new rules and regulations.
