FIBA – Which team had the most valuable player?
FIBA – Which team had the most valuable player? So far, there have been so many great games at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2022. Before we move on to the Knockout Phase, let’s take a look at who the best player in each group was.
Group A – Illan Pietrus – France
Stats:
- Points = 14.0
- Rebounds = 2.0
- Assists = 2.2
- Steals per game = 1.3
- Field-goal shooting = 63%
- three-point shooting = 55%
Pietrus not only has the most points for France, but he is also the best at scoring efficiently and making three-point shots. He does all of this in just a little over 20 minutes per game. The point guard has great control of the game. He gives out 3.3 assists and makes only 0.7 turnovers per game, which is a great 4.7 assist-to-turnover ratio. Petrus knows exactly where to score, either by driving into the lane or from the outside, where he has the fourth-best three-point shooting percentage in the league.
Group B – Aleksas Bieliauskas – Lithuania
Stats:
- Points = 12.0
- Rebounds = 10.7
- Assists = 2.0
- Field-goal shooting = 63%
The big man is Lithuania’s rock in the middle. He averages a double-double for the undefeated group winners’ team. Bieliauskas is very good around the basket, where he shoots 63 percent of the time, and he is also a force on the offensive glass, where he grabs an average of 5.0 offensive rebounds per game. He is also a great defender who keeps the other team’s big men in check.
Group C – Ian Jackson – USA
Stats:
- Points = 19.3
- Rebounds = 5.7
- Assists = 1.0
- Steals per game = 1.3
- three-point shooting = 57%
Jackson really stood out on a team where everyone else was great. He is not only the team’s top scorer, but he has also been one of the Americans’ best sharpshooters and an adamant defender. Jackson also gave the USA a lot of energy with his powerful dunks, which was important for a defense that relies so much on energy and passion.
Group D – Rocco Zikarsky – Australia
Stats:
- Points = 15.0
- Rebounds = 11.0
- Blocks per game = 4.0
- Field-goal shooting = 62%
- three-point shooting = 55%
Zikarsky has shown that age doesn’t matter. The center, who is 7’1″ and a year younger than the others, has been a great player. Australian playmakers just have to throw the ball anywhere near the basket, and Zikarsky will grab it and dunk it. The big man also gobbles up any rebound close to him. He also uses his extended height to significant effect as a rim protector, making people think twice before coming into the paint.
