FIBA U-16 Asian Championship – Indian Young Cagers, finishes fifth
FIBA U-16 Asian Championship – Indian Young Cagers, finishes fifth. In the FIBA U16 Men Asian Championship 2022, the Indian U-16 Men’s Basketball Team won 5th place, which is the best finish of any Indian team. The Indian U-16 Men’s Basketball Team took part in the FIBA U16 Asian Championship for the 4th time. India’s U-16 men’s basketball team was put in the same group as Australia, Bahrain, and Qatar. The Indian U-16 Men’s Basketball Team came in second in their group after beating Bahrain (80-41) and Qatar (77-51). The Indian U-16 Men Basketball Team defeated the Indonesia U-16 Men Basketball Team in the pre-quarterfinals (97-53) and moved on to the FIBA Under 16 Asian Championship 2022 Quarterfinals for the first time ever for a South Asian country.
In the Quarterfinals, the Indian U-16 Men’s Basketball Team played against the Japan U-16 Men’s Basketball Team and lost by 7 points (84-91). The Indian U-16 Men’s Basketball Team fought hard against the Japan Team. The Indian U-16 Men Basketball Team beat the No. 1 team in Asia, the Iran U-16 Men Basketball Team, in a close game that went into overtime. They won by 5 points (83-78). The Indian U-16 Men’s Basketball Team beat the Korea U-16 Men’s Basketball Team for the first time (90-80) in the U16 Asian Championship. This was the best performance in Asia in decades.
What the BFI President Expressed
Dr. K. Govindaraj, MLC and President of the BFI, is very happy with how the Indian U-16 Men’s Basketball Team did. He expressed that this was the best game the India U-16 Men’s Basketball Team has played in a long time. He further thanked the Head Coach, the Support Staff, and the Players for working so hard to make history by making it to the Quarter-Finals.
Dr. K. Govindaraj, MLC and President of the BFI, has announced that the Indian U-16 Men’s Basketball Team will win Rs.10,000,000 if they finish 5th in the FIBA U-16 Asian 2022, which will be held in Doha, Qatar, from June 12th to June 19th, 2022. Kushal Singh has been named to the FIBA U-16 Asian Championship All-Star Five for 2022.
