On Friday, January 5, Pakistan experienced a middle-order collapse in their second innings in the current third Test against Australia in Sydney.
The visitors lost five wickets for nine runs in 7.1 overs, including three wickets in one over, to surrender their slim lead in the Test match.
With a 14-run lead heading into the third innings, Pakistan got off to the worst possible start, with opener Abdullah Shafique and skipper Shan Mahmood both departing for ducks.
Saim Ayub and Babar Azam looked to have steadyed the ship until they were both out in the space of 16 deliveries, leaving Pakistan batting at 60/4.

The collapse continued when Saud Shakeel was dismissed for two runs in the 25th over, putting the score at 67/5.
Sajid Khan and Salman Agha were bowled for ducks in the same over. With all three wickets taken by a blistering over from Josh Hazlewood. On Day 3, the visitors were reeling at 68/7 at stumps.
Pakistan entered the third Test with a 0-2 series deficit. They currently have an 82-run advantage going into day four, with three wickets remaining.

Pakistan batted first and were bowled out for 313 in 77.1 overs. In the first innings, Mohammed Rizwan, Aamer Jamal, and Salman Agha all contributed with the bat.
The three earned 88 (103), 82 (97), and 53 (67) points. Pat Cummins led Australia from the front, returning with a fifer, while Mitchell Starc took two wickets.
In response, Australia was bowled out for 299 in 109.4 overs, giving Pakistan a 14-run lead in the first innings.
With the bat, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Marsh, and Usman Khawaja each contributed 60 (147), 54 (113), and 47 (143), respectively. For the visitors, Aamir Jamal shone with the ball, tallying 69/6.
The visitors’ second innings is presently at 68/7 at stumps on Day 3, with Mohammad Rizwan and Aamer Jamal at the crease. So far in the third innings, Josh Hazlewood has four wickets for the hosts.
