Fans express their frustration with Romanian tennis player, Emma Raducanu: Typically, this is considered a costly move for Raducanu’s opponent because it lets the other player come back in the game. Fans of tennis feel disappointed by her decision and hope she can step up next time.
Despite holding the lead over her opponent, Grigoriyana Raducanu retired from the championship match with Jelena Ostapenko after a semifinal on Saturday. The Romanian did not drop a set throughout the tournament before her disappointing exit at the hands of Ostapenko.
Raducanu began the match against Ostapenko with a strong opening despite Ostapenko taking the first set. Her lead was further extended as she scored a break in the second set, but soon saw some distress which limited her movement after that point.
Ostapenko lost momentum, which initiated a toilful encounter. She quickly closed the score in the second set and found herself leading 3-0 in the third. However, Raducanu decided to call it quits with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 3-0 (ret.).
Raducanu is on her fourth mid-match retirement from this season, with a left hip injury, a lower back injury, and one due to ribs. For the last three people were all due to injuries on the left side of Raducanu.
Many tennis fans were not happy with her reasoning and expressed their displeasure with her frequent mid-match retirements. One fan suggested that the young Brit should find a new career.
Although some didn’t agree with this, many recent cries echoed the moment when she was injured and including that it seemed evident from where I was watching. They tried to play on after the injury but couldn’t run properly because of lack of control in her feet.
At the 2021 US Open, Emma Raducanu achieved history by becoming the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam tournament. The Romanian won all of her matches without a single set lost throughout the entire event.
The last year has been a struggle for Raducanu, with only 17 wins and 18 losses. Her best results have been quarterfinal finishes at the Stuttgart Open and the Citi Open, as well as reaching the semifinals of the Korea Open.
Just days ago on the US Open, where she was the defending champion, she bowed out in the opening round with a defeat to Alize Cornet. The loss saw the former World No. 10 fall to No. 83 in the rankings. Though she has since had a slight revival, she is now ranked 77th.
