Euro 2022: England v Germany final will be a great football feast
Euro 2022: England v Germany final : Martina Voss-Tecklenburg called Germany’s match against England “a magnificent football feast” after her team beat France 2-1 to go to the Euro 2022 final on Sunday.
“England has been fantastic in this tournament,” stated the boss. “They’re so sure of themselves. However, the opening 30 minutes against Sweden showed that you can harm them, so it will be our responsibility to do so.
“We’ll play in front of perhaps 80 or 90,000 people at Wembley, most of whom will be supporting England and only a handful for us.” But we’re up for the task.”
Fans were treated to a visually appealing, high-quality competition. With both teams trading punches, Alexandra Popp put her team ahead with a well executed volley. France shown their mettle by responding immediately as Kadidiatou Diani’s drilled attempt deflected in off the unlucky Merle Frohms.
“They came up with alternative answers, so we had to adapt,” Voss-Tecklenburg explained. “We scored the goal, but unfortunately, we surrendered immediately.” But we were relaxed at halftime because we knew we simply had to keep going. What was vital was our energy, defensive resolve, and guts in going into the duels the manner we did.”
The winner was the indomitable Popp, who rose high in the box for her sixth victory of the event. After Germany reached their first final since 2013, the forward described herself as “a little bit speechless.” “We’ve shown what we’re capable of,” she remarked. “Over the previous six months, we’ve always spoken about how much quality we have in the team and how we just need to prove it on the field.” I’ve been on this team for ten years, and I’ve never seen anything like that in terms of team spirit.”
Corinne Diacre, the French manager, could only bemoan her team’s poor finishing. “They gave it their all,” she remarked. “Unfortunately, the proof was not in the pudding, particularly in the second half… But we’ve created something with this hardworking squad, a group that hates to lose.”
