Erste Bank Open Presented With ATP 500 Award
Erste Bank Open Presented With ATP 500 Award. Wednesday, Erste Bank Open Tournament Director Herwig Straka received a trophy from ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi in recognition of the Vienna event being awarded the ATP 500 Tournament of the Year in the 2021 ATP Awards.
Last year, Straka commented, ‘We are really happy that the Erste Bank Open was selected as the ATP 500 tournament of the year for the first time in our long history. This is a recognition for the entire crew, which works incredibly hard to plan and carry out the event each year. The Erste Bank Open is constantly being worked on and improved, such as this year’s introduction of the “Tennis 2 Go” concept, in order to provide players and spectators with the best tennis and entertainment possible.‘
The Erste Bank Open received the honor of being named the ATP 500 Tournament of the year for the first time. Despite the effects of the Covid-19 epidemic, the festival, which was originally held in 1974, drew close to 60,000 spectators in 2017. Both the Stadthalle and ‘Tennis 2 Go,’ a brand-new second-match venue at the Wiener Eislaufverein in the city center, saw a large influx of spectators.
Last year, the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha (ATP 250) and the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells (ATP Masters 1000) were each named Tournament of the Year in their respective divisions.
