James Maddison of Leicester City, who is in good form, and the strikers Callum Wilson and Marcus Rashford have also been named for England’s World Cup roster in Qatar.
England’s World Cup squad includes Maddison, Wilson, and Rashford
In the lead-up to this month’s tournament, Maddison and Newcastle United striker Wilson—both of whom have not represented England since 2019—have both been recognised for strong beginnings to their respective domestic campaigns.
Rashford of Manchester United is another player who has found some success in the goal-scoring department this year. As a result, England coach Gareth Southgate decided to reinstate him after he last played for his country as a substitute in the Euro 2020 final in July.
Ivan Toney of Brentford earned his first call-up for the Nations League games against Germany and Italy in September but was not chosen because Wilson and Rashford were selected.
James Ward-Prowse of Southampton was left off the final 26-player list in favour of Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, while Tammy Abraham of AS Roma and Fikayo Tomori of AC Milan were also left off.
In addition to Harry Maguire, a defender for Manchester United who hasn’t seen much action for his team, Manchester City’s Kyle Walker and Kalvin Phillips, who have both been sidelined for much of the season, are also featured.
On November 21, England takes on Iran in the opening match of their World Cup group.
