Opening batsman Jason Roy of the SFU-LAKR MLC Clash has established his dominance in Major League Cricket (MLC). On Tuesday, July 18, in Match 8 of the competition at Grand Prairie Stadium, he hammered a devastating six against the San Francisco Unicorns (SFU).
The England opener’s choice to forgo the national contract in order to compete in the MLC was the subject of much conjecture prior to the competition. After missing LAKR’s first two games Roy immediately found his groove when he made his tournament debut.
In response to a short delivery from left-arm seamer Carmi le Roux, the brash opener danced down the pitch and smoked a huge six to the deep mid-wicket boundary.
On the first pitch of the LAKR innings, the ball made a powerful statement by flying deep into the seats.
Jason Roy recently worked with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the LAKR parent franchise, during the 2023 IPL. In eight games, the 32-year-old ran for 285 runs with an impressive strike rate of 151.60 and an average of 35.63.
Roy made an incredible 45 off 21 deliveries in his MLC debut, hitting four boundaries and as many sixes, giving LAKR the ideal start to their difficult run chase.
LAKR fell 21 runs short of the goal, though, as they were unable to surpass SFU’s score of 212.
Sunil Narine “170-180 was a par score” SFU-LAKR MLC Clash
Sunil Narine, the captain of LAKR, was dissatisfied after his team lost three games in a row to start the MLC season. The team’s bowling failed them in their 21-run loss against SFU after poor batting efforts in the team’s first two defeats.
The Knight Riders began their run chase with a bang at 55/0 in the fifth over after handing out 212/7 to a rampaging SFU batting lineup.
However, LAKR was unable to maintain the momentum due to wickets dropping at regular intervals, finally failing to reach the mark. Sunil Narine maintained his composure during the post-game presentation despite their campaign’s terrible start.
It becomes difficult when it goes too far. Despite a strong beginning, we lost a number of wickets in the middle overs. A par score was 170-180. We got off to a strong start, but the middle wickets choked us. You still need to leave and start over. You make an effort and do your best. Narine said, “It sometimes comes off and sometimes doesn’t.
LAKR is still the only team in the competition without a victory with three losses in as many games.
With only two games left, making the top four to qualify for the playoffs will take an incredible finish and favorable outcomes in a number of other games.
With four points after three games, SFU moves up to third in the standings thanks to the victory. After a day off the action now turns from Dallas to Morrisville with LAKR facing the Washington Freedom on July 20.
