On Sunday, January 14, star Indian hitter Virat Kohli celebrated his return to T20Is with a magnificent six off the bowling of Afghanistan bowler Naveen-ul-Haq during the second T20I between the two teams at Indore.
Kohli’s six against Haris Rauf during his 82* innings against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup in Australia has gone down in history as a spectacular moment, and this hit off Naveen was akin to that wonderful moment.
Virat Kohli appeared to be anticipating a back-of-a-length ball from Naveen and had already positioned himself.
The right-hander nearly flat-batted it down the line for a one-bounce four.
Kohli and Naveen have a bit of a history, with some heated disagreements in the past.
However, the pair appeared to have worked it out for the two sides’ 2023 World Cup showdown.
Virat Kohli’s lighthearted appearance set the tone for India’s pursuit
Virat Kohli came out to bat for India early on after skipper Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a golden duck in the first over of the chase.
However, a spectacular boundary over mid-off to start his innings was a strong sign of Kohli’s form.
He scored 29 runs off 15 balls, including five boundaries. Kohli’s 57-run partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal prevented Afghanistan from making additional early inroads into India’s batting.
Jaiswal went on to score 68 runs off 34 balls, breaking the back of the Afghanistan bowling attack.
After the first T20I, Shivam Dube played another excellent knock.
He was present once again to knock the winning runs, remaining undefeated on 63 off 32 balls.
India will want to bat first and test themselves in the third T20I on Wednesday in Bengaluru, having already secured the series.
