During the ODI World Cup in 2023, Pakistan is eager to Avoid Playing Afghanistan in Chennai, according to Reports: During the ODI World Cup 2023, Pakistan was most likely to face Afghanistan at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram stadium. According to a report from PTI, the team has expressed concern about playing that particular opposition there.
The ICC reportedly forwarded the draught World Cup itinerary to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and inquired as to if they had any comments. According to the analytics expert on the squad, they should avoid playing Afghanistan in spin-friendly conditions, a source close to PCB told PTI.
The source also told PTI that Pakistan is planning to ask the ICC to switch the locations of their matches against Australia (Bengaluru) and Afghanistan (Chennai). The source was cited as stating the following:
“The selectors/experts who appear to be uncomfortable with a number of the scheduled games and places for the Pakistan team were given the squad’s provisional schedule by the PCB, such as they have concerns about Pakistan facing Australia at Bengaluru and Afghanistan in Chennai.
The recommendation is to seek the ICC/BCCI to reschedule Pakistan’s games so that they can play Australia in Chennai and Afghanistan in Bengaluru, depending on the team’s strength.
According to a BCCI insider, Pakistan should have good justification for wanting the World Cup’s venue changed
According to a BCCI source who spoke to PTI, as part of its procedure, the ICC asks the boards of various nations for feedback on the schedule. The insider also recalled Pakistan’s request to relocate the location of their match against India during the 2016 T20 World Cup due to security concerns.
The source went on to suggest that the men in Green would require a compelling argument similar to that to successfully change the location of the Afghanistan game, saying:
When traveling to India for the T20 World Cup in 2016, Pakistan pushed for a venue change out of safety concerns.
It becomes quite difficult to decide on the schedule if you start voicing misgivings about specific sites based on your team’s strengths and weaknesses on the pitch. Therefore, no changes are made in terms of the venues unless there is a compelling reason.
It will be interesting to see if Pakistan gets their request.
Meanwhile, it’s been announced that Babar Azam and the company will face off against India in the championship match on October 15 in Ahmedabad.
