During the Ligue 1 match against Clermont Foot, stars from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) will show their support for Sergio Rico, who is currently in the intensive care unit.
Rico has been hospitalized after suffering a head injury in a horse accident. His club colleagues will show their help towards the Spanish goalkeeper by wearing his name on the shirt.
This season, the former Sevilla player Sergio Rico did not play for the Parisian club. The exceptionally promoted Spaniard joined PSG in 2020 and has since kept 14 clean sheets in 24 appearances.
The player’s recent accident is extremely unfortunate, and while battling for his health in the hospital, he will receive support from his teammates.
To show their support for Sergio Rico, PSG will not celebrate the Ligue 1 title:
This season, PSG has already won the Ligue 1. Their season-ending Ligue 1 match will be against Clermont Foot at the Parc des Princes. However, the Parisians will not celebrate the victory.
The move is intended to demonstrate their support for Sergio Rico. The team’s position was confirmed by manager Christophe Galtier, who stated to the media prior to the Clermont Foot game (via GOAL):
“This week has been extremely difficult. We went from coming out on top for the championship on Saturday to a reality check on Sunday. We’re all affected, and we’re working hard to distract ourselves with training. We are all coming together to convey a lot of positive energy and vibes to Sergio, his mother, his wife, and those who are close to him.”
He added:
“We need to have hope, remain optimistic, and send our energy to Sergio, a big boy who is fighting because the players keep asking for news. We must believe in medicine and life.”
To put it mildly, the Parisian club made a wonderful gesture. During his time at Sevilla, Sergio Rico was one of the most sought-after young goalkeepers. He is a player with a lot of talent. The Spaniard’s return to the field should be seen by fans soon.
