The new signings could see their wages reduced by as much as 25% next season, posing a threat to Chelsea, according to reports. If the team does not advance to the next round of the UEFA Champions League, the terms of their contracts stipulate that they will receive reduced compensation.
Due to the clause, players at Chelsea may consider leaving less than a year after joining, according to a report in the Express. The Blues are currently in 10th place in the Premier League, 11 points behind fourth-place Tottenham, and will need a miracle to finish in the top four this season with only 13 games remaining.
If they win the tournament this year, they will be eliminated from the Champions League for good. The Blues came to the quarterfinals the previous evening, politeness of a 2-0 at home against Borussia Dortmund to seal the tie 2-1.
A few departures are likely this summer, according to manager Graham Potter’s comments about the bloated team he manages. However, reports indicate that it is unlikely that the 13 new signings in the last two windows will be sold.
Potter wrote:
“When you have that many players, there are challenges. Because most players want to play, it’s hard to know what role to play. They want to participate in sports, assist the team, and play. At this club, it is difficult for numerous reasons when they are not.”
Added he:
“When you go through a period of transition, like the ones we’ve gone through, there will be times when it’s harder than you want it to be — it’s not ideal. I am not upset about it, and I must support and manage the club to the best of my ability. I want to make the team’s situation better than it was when I arrived one step at a time.”
“Chelsea’s training looks like summer camp”:
According to Emmanuel Petit, a former midfielder for Arsenal, Chelsea’s training sessions have the feel of a summer camp because of the number of players involved. Because of the sheer number of people he has to deal with, he believes Graham Potter will face challenges every day.
He started RMC Sport:
“I’m sorry, guys, but Potter’s main issue is that he has to manage over 30 players every day in training. It is currently a summer camp. You can spend €600 million, and you claim they have enormous resources.”
“They had enormous resources because UEFA is considering changing FFP due to Chelsea,” says the author. “They need to be qualified to avoid sanctions, which they’re probably going to get.”
Christophe Nkunku, who is set to join Chelsea from RB Leipzig, is one of the summer signings that Chelsea is still interested in. Declan Rice, Tammy Abraham, and a number of other people are also being linked to the Blues.
