James Outman and Max Muncy homered, but the Los Angeles Dodgers missed the full sweep of the Baltimore Orioles with an 8-5 loss, snapping their two-game winning streak.
Due to field conditions, the first pitch was delayed 41 minutes, Will Smith’s RBI double and David Peralta’s blooper gave the Dodgers an early 2–0 lead, as the Orioles didn’t cover the infield overnight. But it was a steep decline from there, as Julio Urías allowed eight runs in five innings, the worst of his career.
Moreover, the Orioles quickly made up the deficit by scoring four runs in the first inning, including getting it safe on four straight batters. On the day with a two-run double, when Ramón Urías improved to 2-for-2, Baltimore increased their lead in the third inning. The table was set with Jordan Westburg’s double and Gunnar Henderson’s walk, both with two outs.
What to know more?
Therefore, the Dodgers cut their deficit with James Outman’s home run that cleared the high wall in left field. Outman became the first left-handed hitter to hit an opposite-field home run after Oriole Park at Camden Yards was resized for the start of the 2022 season.
Additionally, Outman’s 414-foot home run was the longest home run by a Dodgers player into the opposite territory since Christopher Negron went the other way with a 416-foot home run on July 31, 2019.
Moreover, with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Orioles answered, but with a two-run home run in the fifth, Max Muncy pulled the Dodgers closer. However, Julio Urías continued to struggle when he gave up a solo home run to Gunnar Henderson in the bottom of the fifth inning. With a 1.75 career ERA, Urías entered the second half, the best mark in MLB history (minimum 230 innings pitched).
Although the Dodgers twice failed to complete the series sweep after the All-Star break, they are 4-2 thus far on their road trip and will now face the red-hot Texas Rangers.
