Details about the surprising transfer of Gareth Bale to LAFC
Details about the surprising transfer of Gareth Bale to LAFC. Gareth Bale, a renowned player for Wales, shared a video on Saturday in which he was seen posing in LAFC clothing, confirming that he would be joining the Major League Soccer team. LAFC shared Bale’s tweet, in which he added the phrase ‘See you soon, Los Angeles.’
Bale’s contract with Real Madrid is up, thus the sensational move would be a free transfer. MLSSoccer.com was the first to announce the deal, and sources have now confirmed to ESPN that it is anticipated to be finalized using targeted allocation money (TAM), leaving the team with an open designated player slot.
He would be eligible to play for LAFC starting on July 7, when the MLS transfer window opens, and he could make his debut the following day when LAFC hosted the Los Angeles Galaxy. After a brief lull, sources informed ESPN that Bale will depart at the end of the week to sign a contract that would keep him with the team through the remainder of this season with the option of an additional year.
The deal comes after LAFC, which is in the lead for the MLS Supporters’ Shield, earlier this month recruited veteran Italian and Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini.
Carlos Vela’s future is undetermined, but according to a source who spoke to ESPN, it will be revealed in the coming days.
According to Taylor Twellman of ESPN’s tweets: ‘Carlos Vela has agreed to leave @LAFC as a DP through the end of 23. Bale and Chiellini play for TAM.’
Bale spent eight seasons with Real Madrid and was a part of five Champions League and three LaLiga championship teams. Following his $106 million transfer from Tottenham before the 2013–14 season, he scored 97 goals in LaLiga (80) and the Champions League (17).
He played in just seven games for Real Madrid, starting four of them, during his final season with the team due to injuries.
His debut season saw him play a major role for the squad, scoring in their victories in the Copa del Rey and Champions League finals while forming a potent front three with Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Bale scored twice in the 2018 Champions League final against Liverpool, including an incredible overhead kick, but by then his injury issues had gotten worse and his relationship with Zinedine Zidane, the team’s manager at the time, had started to deteriorate.
Bale was close to signing a contract to play for Jiangsu Suning in the Chinese Super League in 2019, but the deal fell through after Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, said Madrid changed their minds. When he was photographed in November 2019 celebrating with international teammates holding a banner that read: ‘Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that Order,’ Bernabeu spectators booed him.
Bale spent the 2020–21 season again on loan at Tottenham, where he scored 11 goals in the Premier League, before coming back to Madrid to play a limited part under Carlo Ancelotti. Last month’s Champions League final in Paris saw Bale sit on the sidelines.
The World Cup, which begins on November 21 against the United States, will feature Bale as a representative for Wales.
